2024 SCHOLARSHIPS

HBCU Week College Fair Presented By:

Statement on HBCU Week 2024 College Fair.

To HBCU Recruiters, Corporate Sponsors, Students and Parents of Wilmington, DE,

For the past eight years, the mission of HBCU Week has been to uplift high school students, guiding them towards opportunities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through scholarships and vital networking. We have served over 45,000 students and over $87 million in scholarships have been awarded via our college fair and scholarship programs. Each year our college fair provides an environment of positivity and inspiration for attendees.

However, it has become evident that we must address a pressing issue regarding student behavior during today’s college fair.  The opportunity to attend a college fair and gain admission and scholarships is a privilege—one that we aim to give to deserving students. In order for us to continue to offer this privilege it’s crucial that we maintain a safe environment for all in attendance.  To that end, we implore parents and school administrators to take the initiative to discuss the importance of conduct in professional settings like our college fair. Our college fair is more than just an event; it is a gateway for students to connect with institutions and opportunities that could significantly impact their lives.

We understand the disappointment and concern many attendees felt due to the disruptions caused by some students. The safety of our attendees is of utmost importance which is why we employed all security measures available to us including metal detectors, bag searches, private security and the police department.  However, to ensure a safe and productive environment moving forward, we are implementing enhanced security measures for the remainder of HBCU Week. We are cancelling our Block Party that was scheduled for tomorrow and focusing on making our Battle of the Bands event a safe and fun experience.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to foster a respectful and nurturing atmosphere for our students and their families. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Sincerely,
Ashley Christopher, Esq.
